Spring Showers Jacket Tour: La gang à Nat and the Shaffer Sisters

Wednesday, April 30, 2014
A couple more treats to feast the eyes on today at the Shaffer Sisters and La gang à Nat.

First up is the Shaffer Sisters, where Scary is sharing this beautifully made jacket.  Is there any possible way you could distinguish this from something purchased from a high-end shop?  Love how she used the patriot coordinating lining.  Head over there to see more pics and read about her experience using the Spring Showers Jacket pattern.

Next we have, Nat from La gang à Nat who got adventurous with her jacket not only by using vinyl, but also climbing playground equipment to get her awesome photos!  There's nothing I don't absolutely love about her jacket.  Check out her review of the Spring Showers Jacket pattern and more pics here.

Only one more day left in the tour, and one day to use the coupon code: TOUR to receive a $1 discount off the pattern price.

Spring Showers Tour: If Only They Would Nap and Nutta!

Tuesday, April 29, 2014
I'm delighted to share sneak peeks of the Spring Showers Jackets made by these two talented ladies.

The first is made by Jess from If Only They Would Nap.  What a fun jacket!  You have to go check out her stripe matching...it's amazing!  Head over here to see more.

And then we have a super pretty jacket sewn by Shino who blogs at Nutta!.  Love the spring colours of the fabric she chose and it looks wonderful on her daughter.  More to see on her blog.

Spring Showers Tour: Falafel and the Bee

Monday, April 28, 2014
I'm so excited about today's tour stop: Falafel and the Bee.  Michelle shares so many of her crafty passions on her blog that you could spend a TON of time over there.  Why don't you do that right now!? ;)  She's made such a lovely jacket for her girl.  It looks so classy and yet, has that element of fun, too, with the cute lining her daughter chose.  More pics and details here.

Another Spring Showers Jacket

Sunday, April 27, 2014

All the gorgeous Spring Showers Jackets the tour participants have made have been a huge inspiration for me to get busy finishing another one for my boy.  He already has one, but I wanted to make him a slightly larger one with laminated cotton.  As we browsed through the laminated cotton selection at fabric.com, he immediately chose this one, designed by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman.

I made my almost 6 year old a size 4/5 with an inch added to the overall length and the sleeves.  It fits him well, but I'm not sure if it will fit in fall, which I was hoping for.  But that's ok, I'll get to make him another one, then if I need to!

This is the fourth Spring Showers Jacket I've made, but I experienced something different with this one.  Due to the fact that this laminated cotton is thicker than the one I used previously, it had no 'give' at all, and I found that it didn't always line up well with my lining.  This happened particularly with the hood to hood lining, and the sleeves.  The nice thing about it, though, is it really didn't matter in the end, as it still resulted in a garment that looks exactly as it should.

Matching the pocket flaps to the pocket was an interesting challenge, searching through all the elephants to find exactly the right sequence.  And then, I had to make sure it would line up once the seam allowances were sewn.  Definitely worth the effort, though!

"Ok, Mom, photo shoot's done!  I'm going to the playground!"

Still a few more stops on the tour, followed by the Kids' Choice series.  It's going to be a fun week at E&E!!

Let's hear it for the boys!!  Today the tour takes us to two blogs that I absolutely love: Handmade Frenzy and Nest Full of Eggs.

Heidi from Handmade Frenzy has made an incredible jacket for her boy!  I just love the details she added and her fabric choices are superb.  Speaking of fabric, she used PUL and gives some great tips you won't want to miss.  Head over there to read more.

And then, over to Nest Full of Eggs, to see Rachel's amazing classic yellow jacket.  She has a way of making everything she sews look so professional and this jacket is no different.  What a perfect jacket for the land of 10000 lakes!  For more pics and details, click here.

Spring Showers Jacket Tour: Dotta Sews and A Lemon Squeezy Home

Wednesday, April 23, 2014
Take a look at these two AMAZING Spring Showers Jackets.  It's such an honour to have both these ladies be a part of the tour.

The first is made by Jo who blogs over at Dotta Sews.  Putting her skills to work, she has created such a professional looking jacket.  It's much better than store-bought in my opinion!  Go see more at Dotta Sews.

And here's what Christie from A Lemon Squeezy Home made for her boy.  Such a cool look for a young man, and again, super professional looking.  More details and photos on her blog.

Bohemian Babydoll Dress and Top Pattern

Monday, April 21, 2014

This easy, quick-to-sew dress or top is full of subtle details.  The curved line of the empire waist gives this dress a beautiful, flattering shape.  It has a slightly squared neckline and hi-lo hemline that has facings for a professional-looking finish.  The Bohemian Babydoll has a delicate flutter sleeve, but can also be made sleeveless for an even simpler variation.  The fully-lined bodice has no closures or visible seams, front or back, so there is no separation of the design in the fabric.
