Sew Fab Sale!

Monday, September 30, 2013

Welcome to the Fall and Winter 2013

Sew Fab e-pattern Sale Event!

Last February was the first ever Sew Fab e-pattern Sale and it was so successful and was so well received that Jenny Yarbrough of The Southern Institute, the creator and administrator of the sale, decided to have more!  This sale is bigger and better than the first, with plenty of patterns to get you through the fall and winter (if you live on this side of the hemisphere), and a few warm weather patterns thrown in for those of you who live on the other side of the world.  You'll also find more gender neutral patterns for those of you who are sewing for boys.  And what about you?  Of course there are a few women's patterns thrown in for some selfish sewing too! Over the past several weeks a lot of behind the scenes planning has taken place to bring you this newest bundle of ePatterns from many of the top established and up and coming online sewing pattern designers.  The result is a bundle of 26 PDF sewing patterns that you're going to love! For one week only, twenty-six pattern designers have come together to bring you 26 of their best PDF patterns, valued together at well over $2oo.oofor the incredible price of $29.95!!!  That’s over 80% off of the combined retail value!  Plus you can enter to win a dream of a giveaway with several prize packages from some of your favorite online fabric shops!
For less than $30.00 you will have a library of resources that you can use over and over again.
The designers that have joined this sale are experts in their craft.  Each designer has contributed one of their favorite patterns to create a bundle that is sure to please!  Whether you are sewing for your own family or making gifts for others, these are patterns that you will love to use.
If you’ve never sewn with a PDF pattern before, let me tell you how great it is!  After downloading your pattern instructions and your pattern, you will print out the pattern itself, creating pattern tiles, if you will.  Simply tape the tiles together to create the full pattern!  At that point you can cut out the size that you need and pin the paper pattern directly to your fabric, or you can trace the pattern size that you need onto sewing paper or tracing paper and cut it out, saving the paper pattern for later when you need to sew another size.  Pdf patterns are so convenient because you can print them out as many times as you need!

Now for the good stuff... the PATTERNS!

26 amazing ePatterns from 26 well-known and up and coming designers are instantly accessible to you by PDF download upon purchase of the Sew Fab e-Pattern Bundle.  Here are the patterns that you will receive (click on the links below the images for more  information about each pattern.):

On this last day of the tour, it's a pleasure to welcome two talented ladies well-known for the sewing and designing they do for their adorable boys.

Melly Sews is the place to go for an abundance of patterns, tips, and sewing insights.  And while it's typically Melissa's cute boys in her photos, today, she's in front of the camera, having made a fedora for herself!  You never know...measure your head, this pattern may fit you!!  Head over there to see more pics as well as some tips on how to get your hat looking as great as Melissa's!

Stacey from Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy Crafts joins the tour with this plaid fedora she made for her handsome 7 year old son.  While your over there, make sure to check out all the other boy friendly crafts, activities, and sewing projects Stacey's made.  You won't be disappointed...she's very inspiring!

Fedora Hat Pattern Tour Day 4

Thursday, September 26, 2013
On Day 4 on the Fedora Hat Pattern Tour, Jess is showing us her awesome hat.  She blogs over at If Only They Would Nap, where she shares her crafts and life with her four boys.  There are a ton of great tutorials over there, so check them out after you see more of her hat photos.  I especially love how she complimented the classic houndstooth with fun Star Wars fabric.

Tomorrow is the last day of the Tour, which also means it's the last day of the sale.  Pick up a copy of the pattern using coupon code FEDORA15 to get your 15% off discount.

Fedora Hat Pattern Tour Day 3

Wednesday, September 25, 2013
A fedora made of military fatigue fabric?!  That's exactly what Sabra from sew a straight line has sewn for her super cool son and I can't get over how great it turned out.  She's got an amazing sense of kid fashion, so I was thrilled to have her along for the tour, and you can see why!  There are a ton more awesome pics to see on her blog so see you there.

Marissa of rae gun ramblings fame also joins the tour today.  She's a crafter extraordinaire who sews for her beautiful nieces (lucky girls!).  Browse her shop to find all kinds of super cute clothing.  You may even find an incredible Halloween costume while you're there.  But make sure to head over to her blog for more pics of these stylish corduroy fedoras.

The 15% off discount is still available for a couple more days with coupon code FEDORA15 so you can make your own version of the Fedora Hat.

Fedora Hat Pattern Tour Day 2

Tuesday, September 24, 2013
Today we have two little ladies modelling beautiful fedoras.

The first is made by Lindsay Wilkes, owner/designer of the boutique children's sewing pattern company, The Cottage Mama, and author of the book 'Sew Classic Clothes for Girls' (releasing next month).  When you make one of her designs, it's like sewing a piece of vintage art.  So delighted to have her along for the tour.

Melissa is the designer behind the blog, Sew Like My Mom.  She has a huge collection of tutorials and newly designed patterns that you won't want to miss, so head over there and plan to spend awhile. Happy Birthday to her precious daughter, who turns two years old today!

Use discount code FEDORA15 to get your own copy of this pattern on special this week only.
(code expires September 27)

Fedora Hat Pattern Tour Day 1

Monday, September 23, 2013
It's day one of the Fedora Hat Pattern Tour, and I'm so excited to give you a peek of what two amazingly talented ladies have made.

If you haven't seen the creations that Teresa has made for her precious son and daughter and shared over at her blog, Dandelion Drift, I highly recommend you do.  You'll even see some gorgeous outfits she's made for herself, too.  I love this classic looking fedora...so cool.  Head over to Dandelion Drift for more pics and details.

What an honour to have Shauna from Shwin & Shwin along for the tour!  Her designs are everywhere and for good reason...she has a distinct style that translates into super unique clothing.  Considering her skills, it's not surprising how great her hat looks, despite being the first one she's ever made!  More pics and details at Shwin & Shwin.

Want to get a copy of the Fedora Hat Pattern and make something extra special and unique?  How about a discount to celebrate the tour?  Use discount code FEDORA15 and receive 15% off the regular price.

More incredible creations to come each day this week:

Sewing For Kindergarten

Friday, September 13, 2013

Five years have flown by, and now my boy is ready for Kindergarten!  When Mie from Sewing Like Mad came up with the idea for this series and asked for participants, I was all over it.  I love sewing for my boy, and starting Kindergarten is a big deal, so why not celebrate it with some new handmade clothing?!

Tobias has been attending a Montessori school for the past two years (which he absolutely loved), so school isn't something new to him.  This year, his Kindergarten education will be a little different, though, in that he will be both in school AND homeschooled.  He'll be attending a private Christian school a couple days a week, and the rest of the time, he will be educated at home.  He's super excited about the whole idea (and so am I!).

Because he'll be wearing a uniform when he's in school, I wanted to make Tobias something very comfortable to wear when he's learning at home.  So, I got busy drafting a retro-inspired sweatsuit and a few Recess Raglan Tees (by See Kate Sew)...and voilà!  This boy's ready for Kindergarten!

(Psst...I'm going to be releasing the sweatpants as a free pattern in sizes 12 months to 9 years after the E&E Facebook reaches 3000 likes...almost there!)

Sweatsuit:  Pattern - Self-drafted, Fabric - Organic Cotton Knit
Shirts: Pattern - Recess Raglan Tee by See Kate Sew , Fabric - Jersey Knit from Girl Charlee and Upcycled T-shirts

Keep following the tour for more Kindergarten style inspiration (or catch-up on looks you missed) and upload your outfits to the sew-along Flickr groups.  There are some amazing prizes to be won!
