Stylin' Blazer

Thursday, May 24, 2012

One of several projects I've been up to is recreating a blazer I came across on Pinterest worn by Harry Styles from One Direction.  The contrasting black on the collar, and the black buttons on grey totally caught my eye.  I have no idea who dresses that boy band, but their style is amazing, and I have a few of their looks in mind to remake for my boy.  I made it without a pattern, using an outgrown blazer of Tobias' as a guide.

BOTTOM ROW:

It was so fun to once again to be involved in the Sew Along at Home contest. Having that deadline motivates me beyond belief!  And I also love being introduced to so many amazing bloggers through the contest.

I need to apologize for some technical difficulties my blog was experiencing. Apparently, my new posts weren't being updated to Google Reader. Anyway, I think the problem is fixed.
Special thanks to a subscriber for letting me know about the issue.

There are going to be some BIG changes around here in June.
And to celebrate, there's going to be a giveaway every week, all month long!
Make sure to come back and participate!!

Signature Look

Thursday, May 17, 2012

For my Project Run & Play Signature Look, I had a million ideas running through my head.  I even spent most of the time sewing a garment I didn't even use (but will show you eventually!).  I just kept coming back to what I really love to sew: classic lines & simple features.  The shirt will also be entered in the Project Pinterest Challenge at Two Yellow Birds Decor.
No patterns used...just my measuring tape, & trusty dress form.

The shirt is inspired by an amazing find I pinned on Pinterest from Paul et Paula, made by machooka.

I love smocking!

Lately, I've really been drawn to tied back features, and decided to leave the back open to help beat the heat this summer.

I always seem to end up with plaid somewhere!  I just can't help myself!
:)

Sad (literally) to say, I never get great shots of my children together.  This is about as good as it gets!

So, that wraps up the Season 4 Sew Along contributions for me!  Whew!  Tutorials coming soon.  If there are any particular ones you'd most like to see, please leave a comment and let me know!

Thank you PR & P for a great season.  I can't wait till tomorrow morning, to see what the designers came up with!

Coming Soon...

Monday, May 14, 2012
While I should be frantically working on my Signature Look for Project Run & Play, I just had to take a few moments and fill you all in on what's coming up in the next month or so, once things slow down in my little world.

TUTORIALS!
Yes, I'm going to focus on posting a bunch of free tutorials.  With summer just around the corner, I need to get busy on my children's wardrobes, and plan to let everyone in on what I'm making, and how I making it.

GIVEAWAYS!
I'm going to have my very first giveaways starting in June.  I'll give you the specifics later, but let me just say, that I'm pretty excited because there's some pretty neat stuff!

GUEST POSTS!
I'm so excited to be guest posting on some awesome blogs, starting with the Summer Sundress Series over at Melly Sews.

To say that I'm ecstatic to be included in the group of twenty nine bloggers featured, is a huge understatement!  I cannot wait to see what everyone is going to share so I can get inspired and busy working on some new looks for summer (maybe even a dress or two for me?!?).  A BIG thank you to the amazingly talented Melissa, for hosting the series.

Back to the sewing table...I've got a Signature Look to finish!!

Summer Prints...

Friday, May 11, 2012
Went shopping today with Anja while Tobias was at school and bought myself some craftiness.  Who knew you could get such cute fabrics at Walmart?!  Now to go prewash and plan some summer outfits for Anja accented with these awesome prints.

Project Run & Play Week 5 - Movie Week Part 2

Thursday, May 10, 2012
PR & P outfit for my boy was long overdue, so I got busy this week.  Although my wonderful husband suggested I create a Tarzan loincloth (obviously he was kidding, but can you imagine?!?), I opted to go with a Swing Kids inspired ensemble.  The incredible 1940s fashions in this film is just one of the many reasons why I love it so much.

The inspiration:

I made Tobias a shirt, vest, pair of shorts, and to complete the look: a polka-dotted bow tie.
The vest and shorts are reversible.

It's been a whirlwind of a week, but I'm so glad to have sewn something for my boy.  Not that he ever complains about it, but I sew way more for Anja (girl clothes are so much easier to make, right?!).
